Long described as an impossible dream, self-cleaning glass is now a reality. With the benefit of saving time, energy and money as well as the ability to be combined with other products to achieve such benefits as thermal insulation, noise reduction and solar control.
This product offers a reduced frequency of cleaning but this is dependent on:
- Location– areas of high airborne particles such as building sites, industrial areas, roadside, etc., will have more dirt on the windows.
- Aspect– sheltered windows will not get as much UV or rainfall to breakdown or rinse off dirt
- Recessed windows– these will not get as much UV or rainfall
- Weather– no rain no rinse!
The self-cleaning glass has a microscopic coating with a unique dual-action.
The first stage of the cleaning process is a reaction with daylight that breaks down dirt on the surface of the unit.
The second stage is when rainwater hits the glass and spreads evenly instead of forming droplets and then runs off in a “sheet” taking the loosened dirt with it. The glass dries quickly without leaving streaks.
Rain fall or rinsing is required to wash away dirt. This doesn’t mean that you will never need to wash your windows! However, it should reduce the frequency.
